For the first novel inspired by an obscure (but immensely playable) Indie game, Empires Rift is both fun and informative.'Rift' is the first novel offering background detail and history for the Takamo Universe game, which has been running in one form or anther since the early '80s. Steve does an excellent job of bringing the universe to life, and, as a player and a sci-fi fan, I found it hard to put the book down....every turn of the page brought me closer to the final conflict, and it was compelling. I highly recommend this book for die-hard sci-fi fans, and PBeM gamers, in general.Product details

An excellent science fiction novel. A lot of conflict, action and cybernetics included in this book. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
The thing about good books is that you never want them to end. If this book was double or triple in length I would not be mad.
Great Science Fiction read! A universe at war, not just humans but aliens as well.
They all want something, and they will get it, but it may not be what they want!
I have been playing the game TAKAMO since 1982 and this was well done. I like it a lot.

Take the stories from a long running game and make a book that is enjoyable to read. That is the the case with this book by Steve Rzasa. Nice read and you don't feel like you are reading a log of Geeks Playing Games.
A fine book in the hard sf genre, of which I am a fan. Well plotted and engaging. I look forward to more stories in that setting.
Although it is set in the universe of the play-by-web game Takamo, the story doesn't have a "game story" feel that some books or, for that matter, films do.
A really good SciFi book that has a lot of twists and turns that has surprises around every corner. Steve Rzasa weaves a tale set in a vast universe full of many empires and races that all have their own objectives and intentions. They are all drawn to a small Terran outpost by a conflict far away. What the find when they get there is a race that is not keen to give up their world. What they unleash on the universe is something else entirely. Clasical SciFi full of intrigue, lost love, space battles, and much more.
The book is based on the long running game Takamo and is the first book in the series.
